Guest Bathroom

Our guest bathroom has been sitting untouched for over a year. I knew I wanted to do something different and eccentric in here. About six months ago I was browsing Etsy and came across this butterfly wallpaper, I knew it was going to be the key component of this bathroom. It checked every box I had: eccentric, moody and would make my guests take a second look.

I was able to incorporate so many fun textural and architectural design elements into this bathroom, making it the moody maximalist bathroom of my dreams.

This is definitely a style I have always been interested in incorporating into my home but this is the first time I have had the opportunity to do so.

One of my favorite pieces in this bathroom is the vanity. It has reached top five favorite projects ever, joining the ranks of my fireplace and dining table. I had seen beautiful reeded vanity fronts all over the internet and I knew I could make one (check out the full DIY process here).

I was able to use the original vanity base and just made new drawer fronts and cabinet fronts. To make the reeded fronts, I used a triple bead bit on my router to cut out each indentation. It was a labor of love! But, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I stained the entire vanity Honey by Minwax.

The arched shower. Wow this thing was a beast. I have a full DIY breakdown of the shower, but there were a few key components that made it possible to turn our previous shower into this. The first was attic access. This allowed us to add a vent directly into the shower. The second was height. This shower is 9 feet tall, which allowed plenty of light into the shower.

I had built arched doorways in the past, and the general concept is the same. I built out the rounded parts of the arch with studs, covered the whole thing in a tile safe backer board and waterproofed just like a normal shower. It did make for some creative tile cuts, but overall I think it was worth it!
