5 Best Beginner Wood Projects

Woodworking is so fun, but it can be difficult to start without a mentor. Hopefully this series of woodworking blog posts help get you started on your journey!

All projects in this list use a maximum of 2 power tools: Drill and a Saw (either circular or miter). They also use a mix of other materials including wood glue, screws, stain & sometimes a Kreg pocket hole jig

These wood pedestals are a perfect beginner project. They’ll introduce you to simple cuts, and attaching two pieces of wood together. Use them as center pieces, next to your sink or on a shelf. This tutorial uses a saw as it’s only power tool.

Floating shelves are a great way to display photos, books and little trinkets. There are lots of ways to build a floating shelf, but this way is pretty simple. This tutorial uses a saw and drill for the power tools.

3. Bench

This bench is perfect for an entry way or the end of a bed. In addition to a saw, this project also used a Kreg jig.

4. Sofa Table

Sofa tables are thin tables to put between the wall and your couch. They’re perfect for setting down your drink, your phone, or just a cute moment for decor. This project is pretty simple, just using a saw and a drill.
