Looking for an easy Christmas DIY? I loved making these wooden trees and they are perfect to create a winter wonderland!
Materials:
scrap plywood
wood stain (multiple colors)
joint compound
wood glue
miter saw or table saw
nail gun (optional)
2×2 pine block
Step 1: Draw your trees
If you have any scrap wood lying around, this is the perfect way to use it up! I used a majority of plywood, but any type of wood will do. If you’re buying new wood, I would suggest buying two 1/2 inch 2×2 foot squares of plywood.
Using a straight edge, draw triangles of varying sizes and shapes on your wood. For trees with two or three layers, draw trapezoid shapes for the bottom layers, and triangles for the tops of the trees.
Step 2: Cut & glue your trees
Using a miter saw or table saw, cut along the lines you’ve drawn. Miter saws work for smaller trees, and table saws work for larger trees.
This is a great project for beginner wood workers because your cuts don’t need to be perfect!
For layered trees, use wood glue and a simple clamp to attach the bottom layers to the top layers.
Step 3: Decorate!
I used multiple colors of stain to color my trees. Joint compound also came in handy for the snow-covered look. I used a palette knife to create grooves and waves in the joint compound to mimic snowy drifts.
Step 4: Attach to stand
If you want to group your trees, attach them to a 2×2 with a nail gun or wood glue. This helps
