Everything I Use to Clean Up Dog Hair

With two dogs and a cat, it can get pretty hairy around my house. Over the past 5 years of pet ownership, I’ve tested quite a few products and this is everything I use to clean up dog hair.

I am a firm believer our homes are only made more special with little furry friends. But, I’m less of a fan of the fur that collects in the corners of house.

My Boykin Spaniel, Scout, is a moderate shedder while my mini Australian Shepherd/Boykin Spaniel mix is quite a heavy shedder – especially in the spring when she sheds her winter coat. And my cat, well, you know cats. She causes tumbleweeds of hair that just blow across my floor.

1. Robot Vacuum

This robot vacuum is the most recent addition to my arsenal and I can’t believe I lived without it! It is so helpful to have this little vacuum sucking up all the hairballs that have been caught in the corners. I don’t have the motivation to vacuum daily, so this has been a life saver.  I use this on my low pile rugs, hardwood floors and my peel and stick tile.

2. Pet Hair Remover

This is hands down the best hair remover I’ve ever used. I use this on the couch every few days and does a great job! It definitely has a special little technique so make sure to watch the video that accompanies the product so you can get the most use out of your ChomChom. I even have it out in the picture above. It’s been living on our coffee table now that Scout has taken up permanent residence in the patch of sunlight on the back of the couch.

3. Carpet & Sofa Vacuums

I own the Little Green Pet Deluxe (the one on the right) and it has saved my rugs and my sofa over the past year with a puppy. This cleans up muddy paw prints, bathroom accidents and vomit up wonderfully. Just be sure you clean it out really well after using it. This is great for spot cleaning and upholstery, but check out #4 for my larger vacuum.

4. Vacuum

Can you believe this was a gift? (Do you think it was a *nudge nudge clean your house* gift??) Either way, I’m so happy to have it. I use the Little Green for spot cleaning, but this is essentially the big version of the Little Green. I use this on all of my floors – hardwood, tile, peel & stick, Vinyl Plank and area rugs.

5. Grooming

The best way to get rid of the hair is at the source, so here’s a couple of my favorite grooming products. I wish my cat would sit still for a brush, but there’s just no way. These dog brushes really help though!

There is just nothing better than snuggling up with your dog on the couch at the end of the day. But, with shedding dogs, it takes a little bit of extra maintenance. Hopefully this helps your find some products that keep the hair at bay in your own home.
