Have an empty basement? Turn it in to the ultimate hang out spot with these fun ideas. We’ve tackled quite a few basements and our team loves using basements to create functional spaces for TV watching, working, hosting friends & family and relaxing after a long day.
Create The Ultimate TV Zone
We love using large sectionals to create a cozy, laid-back look. Sectionals are perfect for kicking your feet up after a long day and putting on your favorite show. We like to use durable fabrics and layering everything with soft blankets and pillows.
Pro tip: Put a console table behind your sofa with a few bar stools. This is perfect place for kiddos to eat their snacks without having to worry about them spilling.
Create a feature wall behind your TV to help define the area. Creating “zones” with specific purposes will help an open basement floorplan feel more intentional and put together. Feature walls and rugs help to define these zones.
Build a Snack Prep Area
A kitchenette can be the perfect place to keep all your movie snacks. A small kitchenette can consist of floating shelves for couple of extra treats. Or, go big with a drink fridge, cabinetry and microwave.
Work & Play
This basement area needed to to do double duty as a work-from-home area during the day and a family hang out space in the evening. We used the a lot of the existing furniture and reconfigured it in a way that made sense for this family.
We kept the family’s sectional and used the existing column as a natural break in the room.
For the Board Gamers
Having a table to set up your epic battles of board games is a basement necessity for ultra-competitive families. A small, round dining table or ultra cozy chairs and a coffee table is perfect for this purpose.
